Current Best of Dance Videos

I haven’t done a “EDM videos that don’t suck” post in a while! There are a lot lately, mad props to the DJs.

1. Zedd ft. Foxes – Clarity



My first pick because I saw Zedd live a couple weeks ago and it was awesome. This was the big song everyone was awaiting of course. I’ve loved it since it first came out, not only is the video visually interesting, but the lyrics and tune are so fantastic to sing along to. But when I went to the concert, there was this interesting moment where all you could hear was the women singing the chorus at the tops of their lungs, and then every man there shouted out the “ayyyyy-ayyyyy ayyy-ayyy-ayyyyy” part right before the beat drops. It was perfect and magical. :D

2. Icona Pop – All Night



All musicians should watch the extended video for this song, it’s basically a lesson on how to highlight a subculture without being appropriative. This video is fun, fabulous, and makes me want to watch Paris Is Burning.

3. Jacques Lu Cont & Alex Metric – Safe With You



I was sold the moment this video began: EDM + figure skating = win. I don’t know, this video just gives me feels. Reminds me when I first fell in love with Virtue & Moir back in 2010.

Niche Dance Videos: A YouTube Compilation

It's no secret that I am a big fan of dance music. Not to be hipster about it, but I was into David Guetta before he was collaborating with rap stars and such. ;) Anyway, I've noticed that there are a number of dance videos out there with a common theme of "young woman throws off the shackles of her day job and parties instead". Makes sense, because let's face it, dance music makes us want to party! So I thought it would be nice to start a running playlist on YouTube. Presenting: "Work Sucks, Dance Instead", for your viewing enjoyment. Be warned, most of the videos are NSFW. Dance music might be awesome on the ears but for the eyes... well, there's a lot of T&A to contend with. :P

The Classics Are Classic For A Reason

Oh my god, why have I not posted the video for this dance song yet?! It's the very epitome of what a good dance song video should be. I present to you: 'Another Chance' by Roger Sanchez.


Moral of the story: people with big hearts suffer for it because everyone else is afraid of love.

I Really Need To Hit Up A Dancefloor

You know that episode of Family Guy where Stewie is trying to watch Mr. Belvedere in the living room but his family keeps having conversations right there so he gets frustrated and starts screaming-singing the theme song? Sometimes I love a song so much that I feel like doing just that, without caring about the tune or how utterly insane I would look, hahaha!

Speaking of songs I love, the radio has been providing as of late. My latest find is the song 'You And I' by Medina. The song is originally in Danish, but then an English version was released, and then Deadmau5 did a remix. SOLD! :D



Oh my god, Deadmau5 can do no wrong, I swear.

But while Deadmau5 is right up my alley, the other song I'm in love with right now is patently not. Because it's country. :O Pop-country, but still. You may have heard it on the radio or on a music channel: it's 'Need You Now' by Lady Antebellum.



My love for this song pretty much revolves around how lovely it is to sing, and the way it's just infused with so much emotion. I love it. I may have to look up more Lady Antebellum if all their songs are like this.

English Music Is For Chumps!

After discovering the song 'Manos Al Aire' by Nelly Furtado, it's come to my attention that there's a crapload of varied (yet awesome) remixes of this song. Oooooh! *_*

Obviously, there's the original. Then there's a reggaeton styled remix featuring some dude called Franco El Gorila; very catchy, I can see myself falling in love with it. There's also a mellow and trance-like Robbie Rivera Radio mix that reminds me of 'Where The Streets Have No Name' by U2 for some reason. But the cream of the crop has to be the intense, club-tacular Tiesto remix. Do want!

It's notoriously hard to find good remixes to add to my iPod. the only thing I can do sometimes is bookmark them on YouTube for future reference.

Oh David Guetta, You Can Do Better Than This! :(

Why yes, it's another episode of me cringing at how dance videos are chock full of female objectification. Le sigh.



Didn't help that I was unaware that there's a censored version...

A Whole 'Nother Level Of Awesome

I can't believe that I have a thing for posting actual factual good dance music videos and never even thought of this gem until today.

Quite possibly the best music video ever (IMHO): Romeo by Basement Jaxxx. Why? Bollywood parody, duh.



And I never noticed, until this very moment, that the car chase scene shows stores with Telegu (I think?) letters. No wonder it looks so south Indian, hahahaha.

Sometimes Dance Music Videos Aren't Just Good...

... They're brilliant.

I've loved this song (Say Hello by Deep Dish) for a couple years now but I only recently saw the video. And I was pleasantly surprised! No gyrating females, no fast cars, no slick clubs. Just a quiet story about childhood love and adult estrangement. Watch it!



The ending is what makes the video so awesome. Did it surprise anyone? I know I didn't see it coming.

Dance Until Your Feet Are On Fire

More new music of the dance variety!

First in line is the song 5ive star by a Japanese electro group called Capsule. There's something very catchy about this song, very happy too. The style of this song is quite similar to Perfume, which is probably why I like it so much. Also, the video is adorable and, I have to admit, far too short for my liking. I want more!



Second on the list is a MSTRKRFT remix of the song Green Light by John Legend & Andre 3000. This tune is the epitome of electro (or as some like to call it... Robo Music, hahaha!) and very great to dance to. There's no real video but I am linking to the song in all its greatness.



Third and last on the docket is Move For Me by Kaskade & Deadmau5, two DJs who came together to create this awesome track. It's house music at its best; again, no video but the song is here in all it's glory.



I just realized that there's a fair amount of Canadian content in this post: both MSTRKRFT and Deadmau5 are from Toronto. We've got some amazing DJs down here.

Happy Summertime Music

Today's post is all about cheerful dance videos for a change. Hurrah!

First off we have Ian Oliver's Bucovina. The song itself is light and Spanish flavoured and very danceable. The video is the cutest thing ever; a bunch of dudes are, like, throwing down b-boy moves while they skip and double dutch to the song, and a chick who watches them trains her ass off so that she can join in on the fun. Adorable, check it out.



And just for good measure, let's throw in Heater by Samim. The song is distinctively French sounding with the major use of an accordion. The video is a simple concept; people around the world dancing to the same song. :D
